§ 708. SPECIAL MEETINGS.

Latest version.
  • A special meeting may be ordered at any time by the Mayor whenever in the Mayor's opinion the public business may require it, or upon the written request of any four (4) members of the Council. Whenever a special meeting shall be called, the City Clerk shall cause written notice of such meeting to be given to each member of the Council and to each local newspaper of general circulation, radio or television station requesting notice in writing. Such notice must be delivered personally or must be deposited in the United States mail, postage prepaid, at least twenty-four (24) hours before the time of such meeting as specified in the notice. The notice and order shall specify the time and place of the special meeting and the business to be transacted. No other business shall be considered at such meetings by the Council.

Written notice to each member of the Council may be dispensed with as to any member of the Council who, at or prior to the time the meeting convenes, files with the City Clerk a written waiver of notice. The waiver may be given by telegram. The written notice may also be dispensed with as to any member of the Council who is actually present at the meeting at the time it convenes.
